Master of Public Administration

Western’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) is designed for mid-career local government administrators aiming to further their public management and policy skills and future professionals looking to enter the field. The MPA is Canada’s only public administration program with a purely local focus. MPA courses offer specialized education in local administration and policy analysis, thoroughly preparing students for the challenges of modern community, urban and regional governance and administration.

The MPA's unique course schedule - with many courses delivered in weekend and week-long formats - makes the program highly accessible to students working full time in demanding careers.

The MPA has been offered annually since 1990. Our program’s alumni society includes many of Canada’s senior municipal officials, and is one of Western’s most active alumni associations. The annual alumni conference is an academic and networking event not to be missed.

MPA Research Report

Our Master of Public Administration students all complete a Faculty supervised major research paper. At the time of submission, students choose the classification of their report; Public, Limited, or Confidential.

You can access Public MRP's on Western University's Open Repository, complete with searchable abstracts, subject and geographical keywords. The program does not endorse the content of these papers which are the independent research of the students. The papers are owned by the authors and posted here with their permission. If you are the author of an MPA research paper and would like to have that paper removed from this database please contact localgov@uwo.ca.

The papers classified as Limited can be made available for limited access viewing by current MPA students only. To request access to these papers, please contact localgov@uwo.ca.
